This month's banner features a scene of the Chicago skyline during the recent polar vortex. I found this picture on usatoday.com.
January 2019 is the 29th month in which I have tracked my productivity.
My average amount of productive hours per day (from all categories) was 2.46 hours.
My software development goal for the month of January 2019 was:
So far, so good. We're only 3 weeks into class so far, but everything is going well. Programming Languages class is already more difficult than I expected, but I welcome the challenge. Operating Systems class is very interesting so far. There is a heavy focus on low level programming, and that's something I have wanted to learn more about. In fact, that is just the type of thing I probably wouldn't have the motivation to learn on my own, so I'm glad that the class is required. So far, we've been learning a lot about Unix, which is another thing I've been wanting to know more about - and now I have the opportunity. I'm looking forward to seeing what these classes have in store for me in the coming weeks.
My goal for February 2019 will just be to continue to work hard in my classes. I may find some side project to work on as well, but I make no guarantees on that. My time is limited, after all.
In January 2019, my overall fitness hours totalled to 28.25 hours. I spent 18.75 hours lifting weights, and I spent 9.5 hours on the exercise bike. My average lifting hours per week was 4.23 hours, and my average cardio hours per week was 2.15 hours.
My goal for the month was to put at least 20 hours into fitness. I am very happy to say that I crushed that goal. I feel now that I am back into a good fitness routine. I am making progress in both strength and endurance, and I have been eating very well. During my vacation at the end of last month (December), I gained quite a bit of weight (as I usually do when I go on vacation). Since getting back home, I have been losing weight just ever so slightly - probably the slowest I've ever lost weight. I usually just lose weight as fast as possible, but I do like the way I've been doing it this past month. I've only lost about 3 lbs over the course of about 30 days, but I have definitely gained a decent amount of muscle and lost a decent amount of fat. For now, I will aim to keep this pace going.
My goal for February is to just continue with what I've been doing.
I spent 4.75 hours on music this month. That time was split between producing a new beat and writing lyrics to go with it.
In this past month, I spent 2.25 hour doing other productive stuff like writing last month's blog entry.
Late in this month, I also decided to try out meditation. I've only done it 4 times so far, for a total of about 45 minutes. My plan is to keep this going everyday throughout February to see how I like it. So far, I mean, it's ok. I've only been going for 10 minute sessions, which isn't a very long time (I think). I may or may not extend that time. I'll let you know how I like it in next month's blog entry.
In January 2019 I finished reading Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. It was a pretty interesting read. I guess the main theme is the contrast and conflict between individualism and collectivism. That's my take on it anyway. Obviously, there is a lot more that I could write about it, but I don't feel like writing out a full book report here. I give it 3/5 stars.
