Productivity Report - September 2017

Each Month, I make a post detailing what I’ve been working on, what I’ve accomplished, and just what I’ve been up to. This month's banner image features a rainbow outside my office window.

Broad Overview

September 2017 is the thirteenth month in which I have tracked my productivity. My productivity level this month was ok, considering I missed several days due to vacation and a business trip. My main focus for the month was continuing to work on my office management game, tentatively titled Widget CEO.

  • Fitness: 26 hours
  • Software Development: 47 hours
  • Music: 21.5 hours
  • Other: 6.75 hours
  • Total productive hours: 101.25 hours

My average amount of productive hours per day (from all categories) was 3.27 hours.

My productivity level for the month of September 2017 was about average. I guess I can't complain, but it feels like I could have done more.

Software Development

My software development goals for the month of September was to:

  • Work hard on my new game, Widget CEO.

While I did put a decent amount of work into Widget CEO this month (47 hours), I unfortunately (again) have it in a bit of a broken state at the moment as I work on a new pathfinding algorithm. What that means is that there will be no video this month.

But now with the end of the year quickly approaching, I really need to decide what it is I want to do with Widget CEO. While it has been a great project, a tremendous learning experience, and has a ton of potential to actually be a fun game, I think I will aim to wrap it up by the end of October. Now, I very well may come back to Widget CEO in the future, but I want to at least have something resembling a complete project by the end of the month. More or less, what I have left to implement are pathfinding, title screen, some balancing, and a few other minor details.

My goal for October 2017 will be to bring Widget CEO to a (temporary?) close.

In September 2017, my overall fitness hours totalled to 26 hours. I spent 18.5 hours lifting weights, and I spent 7.5 hours running and cycling for cardio. My average lifting hours per week was 4.32 hours, and my average cardio hours per week was 1.75 hours.

I switched up my lifting routine again. Now I am doing a short full body routine 4 days a week. I'll give an update in next month's report with how it's working out for me.

Here is a graph of my daily weight throughout September (I missed a few days):

Overall, I think I gained a little bit. Not much change (which is A-OK with me).

My goal for the month was to workout regularly. I think I did so for the most part. This goal will stand for October as well.

It's been about two months now since I've been practicing music composition every Tuesday and Friday. I still don't really know what I'm doing. So far I'm mostly just playing around with different sounds and techniques.

Here are a couple of songs I made during September 2017:

In this past month, I spent 6.75 hours doing other productive stuff.

Student Loan Repayment

Last month, my goal was to put $500 toward my debt. That is what I did.

In the month of September 2017, I paid $500 toward my student loan debt, which currently rests at a total of $19,713.36. Since graduating in May of 2016, I have put $24,300 toward my student loan debt. That means I have paid off $21,979.56 of the original $41,692.92 total. (For those wondering about how the numbers add up, keep in mind that some of the money I pay toward my debt goes to paying off interest).

Goals for next month (October 2017):

Software Dev Goals:

  • Work hard on my new game concept, Widget CEO, and bring it to a close.

Fitness Goals:

  • Work out regularly

Student Loan Repayment Goals:

  • Pay off at least $500.
